From Table 6,it is observed that A/A sludge had a better performance than A/A/O sludge in terms of P uptake.
the maximum phosphorus uptake rate of A/A sludge was 55.3 mg P/g VSS h,
which was more than three times of the corresponding uptake rate of A/O sludge (15.4mg P/g VSS h).
It is interesting to note from Figs.
4b and c that the total amount of phosphorus taken up bu A/A/O and A/A sludges coule be even higher,
if adequate amount of nitrate had been provided
so that it would not limit the phosphorus uptake process.
